Bloom Above the Yampa
A little hidden gem from this summer that I recently found buried in the hard drive, cactus flowers above the Yampa River:
I didn’t get much good photography out of my river trips in Dinosaur National Monument this year, but it’s one of my absolute favorite places, with the most amazing geology in the West (in my opinion, and yes, I’m familiar with the Grand Canyon and southern Utah), and a very seldom visited backcountry. Many of the best parts of the monument can be reached only by river, and some, like the sandstone labyrinths north of the Yampa are almost completely inaccessible. There are places in there where no one’s ever been; a 200-foot natural arch back there went undiscovered until 2006!
