Gila Spider

Gila Spider

Time is short and precious lately, but here’s a quick image to share, an inhabitant of the Gila Wilderness, from a trip I took back in March. If any of my readers has the taxonomic chops for a solid identification, I’d love to know this guy’s species!

  1. A quick paw through the Sierra Club “guide to what bit me” suggests that it is a wolf spider, possibly the Forest Wolf Spider, Lycosa gulosa. The area of the country is right, as is the forest litter habitat. But I am not enough of an arachnophile to say for sure.
