When the Mountains Glow

North Twin Evening

It’s that time of year, such a joy as it begins, a delight while it lasts, an echoing yearning as it passes too soon. I found these aspens a couple weeks ago in the headwaters of the North Twin River, a small but dramatic stream in Nevada’s Toiyabe Range.

  1. OK, if you are going to post a bunch of stuff from central Nevada, I will feel better about less stuff from New Mexico. I have been wanting to go back to the Toiyabe’s for years. There just aren’t enough good images of this part of Nevada on the net. This shot looks like it is at the head of North Twin’s canyon. Did you summit Arc Dome on this trip?

As for the photo location, you’re correct, I was on the ridge above the pass between the Twins, the aspen grove continued back and to the left up into North Twin Cirque. I definitely thought about Arc Dome, but didn’t quite have it in me on that trip. I certainly don’t mind having lots of excuses to go back to the Toiyabes, they’re such a big and fairly diverse range, I could see spending a lot of time there.
