Smoke on the Salmon River
The big wilderness areas of central Idaho are intimately shaped by fire: almost every hillside is a patchwork of burns of various ages, mature trees, open slopes, black snags, new growth. The endless ridges and fire haunted forest recede in a haze of blue smoke under cloud or red smoke before the setting sun.
